Obituary: Delores J. Kelley, AKA “The Legend”, 90, Canisteo

Delores J. Kelley, AKA “The Legend”, 90, of 26 Orchard Street, was welcomed into the arms of her one true love on Saturday morning (January 25, 2020) at her home surrounded by the legacy they created.

Born in Canisteo, May 3, 1929, the daughter of Gordon and Mildred Winne Keyes, she had resided in Canisteo her entire life. She was a graduate of Canisteo Central School, Class of 1947 and had been employed as a type setter and proof reader at the Hornell Evening Tribune.

Delores was an excellent seamstress, musician, and loving wife and a mother who dedicated her entire life to raising and caring for her large family.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband “Jack” in 1990, her sister; Margaret Pierce, her brothers; Gordon Lewis Keyes and Harry “Bud” Keyes, and her grandson; Kylan Quinlan and Great-Grandson Bryce Kelley Ordway.

She is survived by her devoted family; Laurie (Gary) Girardet of Orchard Park. Patrick (Patricia) Kelley of Canisteo, Timothy (Janie) Kelley of Alabama, Kathleen (Barry) McKee of Canisteo, Michelle (Robert) Jay of Virginia, Mary (Bradley) Ordway of Bath, Jamie (Hayley) Kelley of Geneseo, Seana (William) Quinlan of Canisteo, David (Susan) Kelley of Hornell, Daniel (Michelle) Kelley of California, Margaret (Thomas) Crook of Canisteo and special niece who Jack and Delores considered their daughter; Jennifer Ward of Delaware. Also, survived by her sister; Carol Meyers of Canisteo and her brother-in-law; Donald Kelley of Hornell, 31 Grandchildren, 32 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration Of Life, per Delores’s wish at the Canisteo American Legion Post, West Main Street in Canisteo on Sunday February 9, 2020 from 2 PM until 6 PM.
