NY State Board of Elections Press Release on Voter Registration Deadline

ALBANY, NY (10/10/2019)-- The State Board of Elections today reminds all eligible state residents to register to vote for the November 5th, 2019 general election.  Tomorrow, Friday, October 11th is the deadline.  Mail-in voter registration forms must be postmarked by midnight to be valid for the upcoming general election. If you have a NY driver’s license, non-driver ID card or learners permit, you can register online up until midnight on Friday at the DMV website: MyDMV .  New Yorkers wanting to register in-person may do so at their county Boards of Elections and at most state agency offices throughout the state, but must do so no later than Friday, October 11th, to be eligible to vote in the general election.
The voter registration form can be downloaded from the State BOE website: www.elections.ny.gov. Applicants can also find forms at state and federal government offices, local public libraries, and U.S. Post Offices.
Also, remember that for the first time New York will offer Early Voting for this election beginning on Saturday October 26th and running through Sunday November 3rd.  Please contact your local board of elections for times and locations where Early Voting will be offered in your area, also for more information on what contests will be on the ballot in your community this year.
Registered voters who have moved to a new address anywhere within the state should notify their county board of elections in writing of their move no later than October 16th.
Persons who are unsure whether they are registered, wish to verify their current address, or find out where to vote, may look-up this information at the State Board’s website: www.elections.ny.gov.
Anyone wishing to change their party enrollment for the purpose of voting in any primary election to be held in 2020, please be advised that due to new legislation the deadline has been changed to February 14, 2020.   As a result, your local Board of Elections must receive your change in enrollment no later than February 14, 2020 to qualify for the 2020 primaries, including the Presidential Primary on April 28, 2020. Changes of enrollment received after February 14th will be set aside until seven days following the June primary and then entered into the voter’s registration record.
For more information on registering to vote in New York State, call your county Board of Elections or 518-474-1953 or visit the State BOE website: www.elections.ny.gov.  You may also email: INFO@elections.ny.gov.
