"Common App Boot Camp" for high school seniors comes to Fillmore

Summer is a busy time of year for students and their families. One event that your high school senior may want to take advantage of is the "Common App Boot Camp" offered by the Adult Educational Opportunity Center (AEOC). Boot Camp will be held in two sessions of approximately 60 to 90-minute session, allowing for a question and answer period.

Many students find tackling college applications a huge impediment to college enrollment. From the many forms and fees, to the dreaded essays, the Common Application, or "Common App" can take weeks, even months to complete and submit. At times, students are squeezing this effort in around many other high school demands or other requirements once classes have begun.

The Wide Awake Library in Fillmore, NY will be holding sessions on July 16, 2019 from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. and again on August 20, 2019 from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. A light meal will be served with refreshments. During these sessions, registered participants can work on all sections of the Common Application used by colleges and universities across the country. Students are encouraged to take advantage of staff expertise and experience for help in understanding instructions, fees, how to request letters of recommendation, transcripts, writing a compelling essay and submitting their applications. In addition, some lucky student who finishes both sessions and completes the required forms will win a $25.00 gift certificate.
