Wellsville: Village to begin aggressive tree trimming operation

Village of Wellsville residents will hear a lot of chainsaw action this summer. Department of Public Works Director Bill Whitfield told the village board Monday evening that he plans "an aggressive tree trimming" program this summer. The work will mainly be focused around power lines. "We'll be going circuit by circuit," he said. The goal is to reduce the risk of power outages.
Fire Chief Michael "Barney" Dillie told the board that the department has officially recognized the Training Division. He said that consists of the Captains and company training officers. The plan, he said, is to develop long-term training goals instead of the "by the seat of your pants" method.
Dillie said the department is also trying to purchase six AED's or automated external defibrillator's. The cost is about $8,000 and fundraisers have generated about $2,400 so for.
The Chief also announced that thanks to a donation, the Department now has a website. Visit www.wlsvfd.org.
