Obituary: Frederick A. Goldthwait, 80, Cuba

CUBA - Frederick A. Goldthwait, 80, of Cuba, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Olean General Hospital following a very tough fight with cancer. Fred was born December 6, 1937 in Cuba, son of the late Ernest M. & Helen Jean (Campbell) Goldthwait. He was a graduate of Cuba Central School. Following graduation, he served his country with the US Army from 1956 to 1958. He and the former Linda S. Bolton were married on September 20, 1959 and celebrated 59 loving years together. Fred was employed at the former Guernsey Farms Dairy, Meadow Brook Dairy and retired from Dean Foods as a transportation specialist. Following retirement, he drove school bus for the Cuba Rushford School District. After full retirement he and Linda enjoyed traveling to many places across the country and spending time with their family. Fred was an accomplished bowler and had achieved the 300, 299, 11 in a row and 800 series in his lifelong love of the sport of bowling. He was a 50 plus year member of the American Bowling Congress, was the founder of the Junior Bowling League at Echo Lanes, coached Cuba Midget and Pee Wee Football, played travel softball in the local area, volunteered as groundskeeper for the Cuba Little League, was an active band parent for the Caballeros’ Marching Band. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting with his sons and many friends, fishing and an occasional visit to the local casino.
Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years Linda S. of Cuba, three sons and daughters-in-law, Eric A. & Valerie of Belfast, Gregory M. & Teresa of Big Flats, Bradley S. & Bridget of West Seneca, four grandchildren, Samantha & Taylor Eck of Lancaster, PA, Brenton & Tara Goldthwait of Wheeling, WV, Christopher Goldthwait of Belfast, Cassie (Faith Page) Goldthwait of Seneca Falls, NY, great-grandchildren, Christina Goldthwait of Cuba, Brooks Goldthwait of Wheeling, WV, and Baby Eck due at any moment, two sisters, Molly Keesler and Marjorie & Joe Rix all of Cuba, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, a sister Helen “Teddy” Shaller and his brother-in-law, Dean Keesler.
Family and friends are invited to his memorial service that will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Cuba, 17 South Street, Cuba, NY 14727.
