BELLS OF PEACE...A World War I Remembrance in Allegany County

One hundred years ago, early in the morning of November 11, 1918, word was received throughout Allegany County that an armistice had been signed, thus ending World War I.  Our local newspapers contained articles about celebrations throughout the county, including spontaneous parades, the ringing of bells, speeches, and other activities.  The joyous din lasted late into the night!
From Ronald Taylor, President & Museum Director of the Allegany County Historical Society (ACHS) located in Andover - Let’s spread the word far and wide that bells be rung again on November 11, 2018, at 11 a.m. local time throughout Allegany County to commemorate this historic event that took place 100 years ago!
On the national level, the United States World War One Centennial Commission has organized a World War I remembrance, “Bells of Peace.”  They are asking that bells be rung on November 11, 2018, at 11 a.m. local time throughout the country.  For more information, their website is:  www.worldwar1centennial.org.
