Wellsville man charged with setting a fire at an apartment house


Following an investigation into an apartment house fire on May 29th at 40 East Fassett Street in the village of Wellsville, Wellsville Police Tuesday report the arrest of Kenneth L. West, 67, of Wellsville. He was charged him with Arson 2nd (Class B Felony) and Reckless Endangerment 2nd.  West was processed and arraigned before Wellsville Village Justice Chris O’Connor. West was committed to the Allegany County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 property bond.  He is due back in Wellsville Village Court on August 21st at 4:30 p.m.
According to our original story, police said there was smoke inside the apartment house they arrived at about 1:30 a.m. that day. Several residents were safely evacuated. Allegany County tax records show the apartment building is owned by Michael and Marcia Dunn of Coudersport. They also owned a house on North Main Street in Wellsville that was destroyed by fire in May.
