Corning Rotary Invites Community to Attend the 2018 Scripps Regional Spelling Bee

CORNING, NY — The community is invited to attend the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee, 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Corning-Painted Post Middle School, 35 Victory Hwy, Painted Post, NY. The event, sponsored by Corning Rotary Club, is free and open to the public.
This year’s Bee boasts student representatives from school districts in the following counties:  Allegany, Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tompkins, Bradford, PA, and Tioga, PA.  School districts and homeschool organizations in these counties conducted spelling bees for students in grades one through eight to identify one winner and one runner-up from each participating school. The champion of the Regional Spelling Bee will represent our region in the 2018 Scripps National Spelling Bee in the Washington D.C. area in May, 2018.
In addition to the Corning Rotary Club, Bath Rotary Club, Corning Credit Union, Corning Incorporated, First Heritage Credit Union, Nesbitt Financial Services, ServU Credit Union, the Tripp Foundation, and Upstate Farms are all sponsors of the Regional Spelling Bee. Sponsors help to provide an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. for the Regional Spelling Bee winner, as well as T-shirts, trophies, and other prizes for each school’s champions. Wegmans, Atlas Brick Oven Pizzeria, and Bob Evans will provide refreshments for the Regional Bee.
