Mysterious turn in 34-year-old Olean missing person case

From the Olean Police Department:
It has been 34 years since Josephine Despard went missing. We have not forgotten about her and still want to solve this case. The Criminal Unit would like to hear from anyone who could give us any type of information on Josephine's disappearance. We recently received an anonymous letter from someone about this case and are very interested to speak to the person that sent this. ***MISSING FOR 33 YEARS***
Josephine Doris (Cottone) Despard

LAST SEEN FEB. 7, 1984 in OLEAN, NY
Vital Statistics:
Age at Time of Disappearance in 1984: 26 years old
Height/Weight: 5'2", 102 pounds
Description: White female. Short, thick black hair, brown eyes.
Scars: C-Section scar
Clothing: Josephine was last seen wearing a red coat with a hood and a beige sweater and brown knee high boots
Dental/Fingerprints: On file
DNA: waiting for family samples
AKA: Josie

Circumstances of Disappearance:
Despard left the family home in Olean at 5:00 PM with a male acquaintance from Franklinville, NY. They were reportedly going to his home to swap some stereo components. The man, who police have not identified, later told police that they instead went to the Olean Mall for a cup of coffee and that he had last seen her at 6:00 PM. The man claimed that Despard met with friends at the mall, and he left alone.

The man committed suicide in 1984, and his mother also committed suicide a couple of years later.
Her disappearance remains unsolved.
