Wellsville man unhurt in Ulysses collision

COUDERSPORT –– Two men escaped injury in a two-vehicle collision at 9 a.m. Jan. 20 in Ulysses Township. Pennsylvania state police say that a pickup truck, operated by Gregory R. Payne, 41, of Wellsville, N.Y., was traveling south on Route 449 (South Brookland Street), negotiating a left-hand curve in the road as a a pickup truck, operated by Fred A. Lefever, 57, of Jersey Shore, was heading north. Police say Lefever’s truck was crossing a bridge while hauling an over-sized load as Payne’s truck was attempting to slow down and move to the right of the roadway. Payne’s driver side rearview mirror collided with the front left corner of other truck’s load, police said. Payne’s truck sustained minor damage that included a broken driver side door window and a broken driver side rearview mirror. After the incident, Lefever’s truck continued along Route 449 in the northbound lane. Police list Payne’s violation as driving vehicle at a safe speed.
