Allegany County: Lights out for SolarCity deal

Correction and clarification to previous post
The Allegany County Legislature Monday afternoon voted to terminate a contract with SolarCity for the construction of a solar array at the Allegany County Landfill. The agreement, first inked in 2015, was entered into on the belief that the county would have realized substantial savings. As time marched on, however, a further review showed that the savings would have been far less that originally expected. The expected revenues would have also required the involvement of the Industrial Development Agency to totally get the project exempt from all property taxes. WRN incorrectly reported that the decision to end the deal was also made in part for future space needs at the landfill. Space at the landfill played no part in the decision.
