Obituary: Walter Myron Francis, 80, formerly of Rushford


Arcade --- Walter Myron Francis of 37 Aristo Terrace and a former resident of Rushford died Monday, December 18th, 2017 in Buffalo General Hospital following open heart surgery and pulmonary complications. He was born on June 20, 1937 in the town of New Hudson, a son of the late Norman and Marjorie Baker Francis Sr. He married Joyce Burdick who survives.
After Graduating from Rushford Central School, Walt held a number of jobs, eventually becoming part of the maintenance staff at Rushford Central, where he worked until his retirement in 2007. Walt was a fixture at the school and generations of students got to know him in the hallways or by riding on one of the activity busses he often drove.
Walt had a passion for attending sporting events to watch both his kids and ultimately his grandkids and great-grandchildren compete.
Walt enjoyed attending Dirt Track races with Joyce and rooting on the Buffalo Bills. On any given Saturday you would find Walt cleaning and polishing his current car to perfection.
Surviving in addition to his wife are their children, Rick (Patty Burdick) Francis of Rushford, Vicky (Randy) Bliss of Highpoint, NC, Greg (Carolyn) Francis of Rushford, Mike (Rita) Francis of Arcade, ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren two brothers, Laverne (Nancy) Francis of Batavia, Melvin (Elaine) Francis of Chesnee, NC, a sister-in-law, Irene Francis of Texas and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Norman Francis and Herb Francis and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Francis.
A private family gathering will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials if desired to: the Yorkshire Fire Department in Walt’s name.
