Wind energy project advances in Steuben county

The Baron Winds Energy Facility project in Steuben County continues to advance. The company says by the end of the month, it will file an application with a state Siting Board seeking permission to construct and operate the proposed facility. The project includes an up to 300 megawatt (MW) wind-powered electric generating facility consisting of up to 76 wind turbines to be located in the Towns of Cohocton, Dansville, Fremont and Wayland. The Facility will include wind turbines together with the associated collection lines, access roads, permanent meteorological towers and an operation and maintenance (O&M) building. After the application has been filed, Baron Winds will provide funding in the amount of $300,000 to be disbursed by the Siting Board to municipalities and other local parties to help pay expenses, including attorneys and consultants.
