Help available for some Steuben cancer patients

BATH Income-eligible residents in Steuben County may be able to receive help paying for cancer expenses and costs, according to the county Public Health Department. The S2AY Rural Health Network, which includes Steuben’s Public Health, hosts the Cancer Services Fund which helps cover medical bills, co-pays, deductibles, prescriptions, mileage, durable medical equipment, and any special foods or over-the-counter medicines related to the illness. Clients are encouraged to seek insurance reimbursement, including Medicare, Medicaid and Charity Care before using Cancer Service Fund money. To receive the funds, participants must :
Live in Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler, Livingston, Ontario, Wayne, Seneca, or Yates counties.
 * Have a family income less than 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level or have extreme financial hardship caused by cancer.
