Fire at Alfred State College

Alfred and Alfred Station firefighters were called to a fire just after 5 a.m. today at Alfred State College. County dispatchers said the blaze was located in a laundry room in the MacKenzie North dorm - G Block. When an Alfred Fire Chief arrived minutes later, he reported over the radio that there was "heavy smoke" in a hallway. He told crews he needed 'masked men' with extinguishers and "bring a hose to the doorway entrance." Fire alarms blared in the background. Crews had the scene under control in less than 30 minutes. There were no initial reports of injuries, but an ambulance was at the scene. Fire Investigators were called to the scene to look for the cause.
