Allegany County Election 2017: Graves stays, LaForge goes

The Allegany County Board of Elections Wednesday afternoon confirmed some results after absentee ballots were counted following last weeks General Election. District 4 (Wellsville/Andover) Legislator Karl Graves will serve another four year term...Kevin LaForge won't. Graves retained his seat by a 32 vote margin. The official results will be formally certified next week, but Deputy Election Commissioners said today that Karl Graves captured 1,094 while Kevin LaForge obtained 1,062. Officials said there were still 37 military ballots outstanding, but not enough in the District Four race to alter the outcome. On Election night, Graves had a 16 vote edge. LaForge was the first Conservative party candidate to serve of the legislature in decades...perhaps more. Newcomers Steve Havey and Gary Barnes both won handily.

In another surprise, absentee ballots altered the outcome for the Town of Rushford Supervisor's race. Incumbent John Jessop lost his re-election bid. Liberty Party challenger Peter Wade was declared the winner, by a four vote margin.  Elections officials said Wade received 147 votes, compared with Jessop, who received 143 votes. Republican Charles Bliss received 117 votes.
