Walgreens plans to close hundreds of drug stores - WETM

(NBC NEWS) - Walgreens plans to shutter 600 drug stores as it completes a deal to buy nearly 2,000 of them from rival Rite Aid.

A company spokesman says most of the closings will be Rite Aid stores. A majority of which will be within a mile of another store in the Walgreens network.

The closings are set to start next spring and be completed over a year and a half.

Walgreens has not indicated which of the stores will be closing.
