Obituary: Betty Louise Moore, 78, born in Andover (Corrected)

Betty Louise Moore, 78, passed away Thursday (Sept. 14, 2017) at home surrounded by family.
Mrs. Moore was born on Feb. 10, 1939 in Andover to Stephen and Adelaid (Shirey) Ordiway. She attended Canisteo Central School. On April 2, 1960, she married Richard L. “Dick” Moore, who predeceased her on June 15, 2007.
Betty worked in food service at Greenwood Central School from 1976 until her retirement in 1994. She had previously worked for Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Bath assembling radio tubes and 6 years at Marion Rohr Corporation, Inc. in Hornell assembling ladies garments.
Betty is survived by four daughters, Anita Barnes of Tampa, Fla., Kimberly E. Moore of Greenwood, and Melinda (William) Weakland and Sherry (Bob) Charles, both of Canister; three sons, Richard M. Moore, Thomas P. (Misty) Moore and Marty (Jackie) Moore, all of Greenwood; three sisters, Dorothy DeWall of Hartsville, Violet (Donald) Spencer of Andover and Joanne (Jerry) Updyke of Greenwood; 22 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one sister, Iva Elster and five brothers, Richard Ordiway, Burdette Ordiway, Milton Ordiway, Robert Ordiway and William Ordiway.
Betty was all about family. For outdoor activities, she enjoyed fishing, camping and snowmobiling with her husband and children. On one occasion, she and her husband built an awesome treehouse for their kids. Some of the favorite family memories were the times they would load up the car and take back road tours, looking for wildlife. She also enjoyed working in her garden.
For indoor activities, Betty liked to crochet and knit; making socks, ponchos, gloves and sweaters to be given out as gifts. She took great delight in giving to others. Betty also enjoyed playing BINGO and cards in addition to being a huge Elvis and country music fan.
Betty was a very active member of the Canisteo American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was a social member of the Greenwood American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Additionally, she was a longtime member of the Hornell Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 210.
​Per her wishes, there will be no prior visitation. There will be a Celebration of Life memorial service held at the Hornell American Legion Post 440 on Saturday (Sept. 23) at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
