Elmira Corning Regional Airport to host full-scale crash simulation drill Saturday

BIG FLATS – This Saturday, Sept. 23, the Elmira Corning Regional Airport and the Chemung County Fire and Emergency Management Office will conduct a full-scale simulated airplane crash.
The scenarios for Saturday’s disaster drill will be an approaching plane that crashes while attempting to land at the airport. The drill is to test the response of airport personnel, as well as local fire companies, law enforcement and area hospitals. The incident will involve, live fire, simulated casualties and accident “victims” being taken to Arnot Ogden Medical Center, St. Joseph's Hospital and Guthrie Corning Hospital.

This drill is required every three years by the Federal Aviation Administration.
The emergency drill will be held from 8 A.M. to 11 A.M. Saturday. The airport will be open and all regular flight activity will occur while the drill is taking place.

If driving near the airport on Saturday, please note there will be a live fire, mock-victims, some wearing realistic makeup to simulate injuries, fire apparatus and ambulances. Do not be alarmed.
