Shinglehouse couple facing 6 felonies in child abuse case; released on $75K unsecured bail


A husband and wife from Shinglehouse were arrested this week for allegedly abusing their five children, ages 5-13. Dick Clarke, 71 and Jennifer Clarke, 40, both of 10 Old Ceres Road were taken into custody by Shinglehouse Borough police. According to the criminal complaint, the children were allegedly beaten leaving bruises, threatened with death, called disparaging names and were often in a state of poor hygiene. The complaint also alleges that the children were told not to speak with police or social services. While the alleged abuse may have gone on for a decade, the current complaint only dates back to events beginning August 2015. Both defendants were arraigned by 
Magisterial District Judge Kari A. McCleaft. Dick and Jennifer Clarke were released on $75,000 unsecured bail. They'll return to court August 17th for a preliminary hearing.
