Allegany County: Car-pedestrian crash leads to manslaughter charges

On May 29, 2017, Troopers arrested Todd V. Gardner, 43 of Scio, NY for Manslaughter 2nd and Driving While Intoxicated.
Today at 12:29 a.m. Troopers responded to County Route 18 in the Town of Scio for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.  Police said Gardner was traveling north on County Route 18 in a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro and struck Douglas R. Brauen, 37 of Wellsville, NY.  Brauen sustained injuries, but was alert and responsive.  Further investigation revealed that Gardner was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and placed under arrest.  Garner was transported to SP Amity and submitted to a breath test resulting in a .11 percent BAC.
Brauen was transported to Jones Memorial Hospital to be treated for possible leg fractures.  During treatment Brauen went into cardiac arrest and died.
Gardner was remanded to Allegany County Jail on $5,000 bail.
District Attorney Keith Slep was advised and Coroner Ted Crowell pronounced Brauen dead.
This is still an ongoing criminal investigation.
