Scio Fire Department begins new service

The Scio Fire Department has begun a new service to help its community. The New York State Department of Health recently approved the fire department as an official Rural First Responder Service, allowing it to formally provide basic life support services. Fire Chief Jim Ames this morning called it "a good thing." He added that the service would be "great" for taxpayers and residents. Ames said that essentially, trained and medically equipped members will initiate basic medical care until Wellsville Ambulance arrives. Ames also credited support from Wellsville Ambulance during the process. He said Scio has a partnership with Wellsville, allowing Scio to obtained needed medical supplies. Emergency vehicles at both station 1 & 2 have now been equipped and are in compliance with the Public Health Law. The new service began on Valentine's Day.
